Christmas Holidays in Paris

If Paris is a fantastic town throughout the year, then at Xmas it becomes an impressive place. In this festive season the French capital really honours its name – the city of lights. Thousands of bulbs enhance the streets, giving the town a completely unique appearance. Everything is flooded with light and the town shines waiting for Santa’s arrival.

Paris is the ideal town to spend the Xmas holidays. It seems like a fairy story. Not simply the lights decorate the town, but thousands of Xmas trees, nativity scenes and shop windows give it an enchanting touch. Additionally, some gigantic wheels and skating rinks are installed to give the children a unforgettable Xmas. A Paris apartment is a superb place to spend the holidays. The colourful Xmas lights adorn especially the three major Parisian department shops – Galeries Lafayette, Printemps and Bon Marche. Even Father Christmas stays in Paris a couple of days before Christmas Eve to enjoy its charm!

While the whole city is wonderful at Xmas, it’s worth visiting certain places at this time of the year. And what easier way to start than by wandering among the champs Elysees, one of the prettiest avenues in the world, especially in this festive season. The Notre-Dame cathedral is another key place to go at Christmas time. Each year a huge Christmas tree with red ornaments is installed in front of the key entrance. Additionally, on Christmas Eve the celebration of Midnight Mass is held here. The Trocadero Gardens are the perfect spot to see the iconic Eiffel Tower. It illuminates each hour for 5 min. with thousands of golden lights. It is an amazing spectacle! Parisian folks hold a celebration for a special dinner the day before Christmas. The menu consists of fresh oysters, foie gras, smoked salmon, goose, turkey or roast chicken ; then, they eat some of their delightful chocolates eg the Bche de Nol with Champagne.
